Poland and the Baltics want to combine fortifications on the border with Russia

Poland and the Baltic states intend to unite defence fortifications on the border with Russia and Belarus.

Cesarius Tomczyk, deputy head of the Polish Ministry of Defence (MoD), told a meeting of NATO defence chiefs in Lithuania.

“A few weeks ago Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia announced the construction of the Baltic Defence Line. We have contacted our colleagues on this issue,” RIA Novosti quoted a Polish MoD spokesman as saying.

Tomczyk said that Poland and the Baltics dream of creating the Eastern Shield, a national deterrence and defence programme in the region.

Earlier, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda suggested that Poland create a regional logistics centre for the production and procurement of ammunition.
