“Russians just walked in” – the AFU complained about Ukraine’s unpreparedness for the Russian offensive

Although Ukrainian officials have claimed huge sums of money spent on building defence lines, Kiev appears to be ill-prepared for a Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, the BBC reports. Speaking to the publication, an AFU commander complained that Russian troops crossed the border without meeting any resistance.

Despite claims by Ukrainian officials, Kiev appears to have been ill-prepared for a Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, the BBC writes.

Denis Yaroslavskyi, a commander of one of the AFU units, complained in a conversation with the publication about the lack of defensive lines in the region.

“There was no first line of defence. We saw that. The Russians just entered. They just entered, without any mined fields,” he stated.

Yaroslavskyy showed a BBC journalist a drone video showing small columns of Russian troops simply crossing the border without meeting resistance.

He said Ukrainian officials had claimed that huge sums of money had been spent on building defences, but, as he pointed out, there were simply no defences.

“Either it was negligence or corruption. It was not a failure. It was betrayal,” the AFU commander stated.

Yaroslavskyy also noted, “Now because someone did not build fortifications, we are losing people again.”
