ATACMS will be ineffective for the AFU – expert Gressel

A German leading expert of the European Council on Foreign Relations, Gustav Gressel, has said that tactical ballistic missiles ATACMS in the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will become ineffective weapons due to GPS guidance systems, which will be suppressed by the Russian REB.

“They (ATACMS missiles – ed.) can be used to strike in depth. <…> The problem is that the missiles use GPS guidance. The Russians have very effective means of signal suppression,” the internationalist told Spiegel magazine.

According to the specialist, in order to increase the effectiveness of ATACMS application, the AFU engineers need to use cluster filling for the missiles. In addition, Spiegel’s interlocutor believes that Europe should reconsider its membership of the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

“The only chance to achieve a hit is cluster munitions”, – emphasised Gustav Gressel.

Earlier, journalist Christoph Wanner said that US-made long-range ATACMS missiles would not help the AFU to change the situation in its favour.
