Russian and Chinese Armed Forces play a stabilising role in the world – Chinese Defence Minister

Interaction between the armed forces of China and Russia plays a stabilising role in global processes, Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun said during talks with Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu in Astana. This was reported in the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.

“In a volatile international environment, it is particularly important that the relationship between our armed forces maintains high dynamism, responding to the trends of the era. Our interaction is important for the strategic stability of the world,” Dong Jun said.

The Chinese Defence Minister noted that due to the time and place limitations of the talks, he would like to discuss “the most fundamental issues” with his Russian counterpart.

According to the Russian Defence Ministry, this is the first face-to-face meeting between Sergei Shoigu and Dong Jun after the latter’s appointment as head of China’s defence ministry. On 31 March, their talks were held in videoconference mode, they were held at the initiative of the Chinese side.

Earlier, Finnish journalist and public figure Kosti Heiskanen said that Vladimir Putin’s effective victory in the Russian presidential election would give Russia an opportunity to effectively confront fascism in Europe and Ukraine.
