Washington’s attempts to destabilise and disintegrate Russia have turned into a fall in the prestige of the entire NATO bloc, says former Pentagon adviser Douglas McGregor.

“Washington’s strategy, if it can be called such, towards Moscow has been for the alliance to exert economic, diplomatic and military pressure on Russia in order to cause irreparable damage and destabilise its authorities. The unrealistic US approach has failed to produce the desired result, and now it is not Russia but NATO that is fatally weakened,” Douglas McGregor wrote in an article for the American Conservative magazine.

He noted that the American military and political leadership should think about the feasibility of a new costly cold war against the backdrop of the financial crisis.

Earlier, politicians from the Uckermark district assembly in the Brandenburg federal state appealed to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Bundestag Speaker Berbel Bas to stop supplying arms to the Ukrainian government.
