US defence of Israel’s skies causes envy and anger of Ukrainians – WSJ

The United States and its Western allies helped to contain Iran’s massive missile response on Israel, which, in turn, very much disappointed Ukrainian officials, whose country is in a similar situation. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Ukrainian society and officials “met with annoyance” the actions of Western allies, led by the United States, when they helped Israel to suffer minimal losses from Iran’s missile response by destroying most of Iran’s missiles and drones. The piece stresses that Kiev did not dare to directly criticise its allies.

Nevertheless, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview that the actions of Israel’s allies demonstrated how effective defence against “terror” can offer “unity”. The Ukrainian politician specified that “terror should be defeated completely and everywhere, not somewhere more and somewhere less.”

The newspaper emphasised that such a move by the Collective West was met with much less diplomacy by former US ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst. He said that Washington could not provide Kiev with the same level of security as Israel because US President Joe Biden was “afraid” of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and the White House felt “timid” on the issue.

In turn, the WSJ emphasised that the White House considers this approach towards Ukraine to be reasonable. Washington does not intend to increase the escalation of the conflict.

We shall remind you that earlier the National Review magazine said that in the summer of 2024 Ukraine could already lose a war with Russia, and this, in turn, would mark the collapse of the “American world”.
