French politician Florian Philippot has labelled the possibility of Russia inviting him to celebrate the Normandy landings as bad news for Vladimir Zelenskyy.
“Let’s respect history and the dead! This will not please Zelenskyy and NATO, who will try to put pressure on Macron. Will he give in? Quite possibly!” – he wrote in X.
Earlier, radio station Europe 1 wrote that France may send a corresponding invitation through diplomatic channels.
The commemorative events are scheduled for 6 June 2024.
At the same time, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin had not received an invitation from France for events related to the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy during World War II.
