Zakharova: Russia warned that Bern was losing credibility as a mediator

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia warned the Swiss side that Switzerland was losing credibility as an international mediator because of Bern’s actions.

She told RIA Novosti.

“Even more than a year ago we warned Bern that the continuation of this destructive line is fraught with the loss of our trust in the confederation as a bona fide mediator in international affairs,” Zakharova said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman noted that Switzerland betrayed the thesis of its neutrality by joining Western sanctions, attempts to work out a mechanism for confiscating Russian state assets in the country and other steps.

Earlier, Zakharova said that Russia was raising the issue of moving the Geneva discussions on the Transcaucasus from Switzerland to another country.

On 11 April, the Swiss party Democratic Union of the Centre (UDC) called for the state to return to strict neutrality. According to the political force, recent actions by the Swiss authorities have resulted in “Switzerland no longer being perceived as a neutral state”.
