A fence with barbed wire has appeared along the Tisa River near the border between Ukraine and Romania. This was reported by the Ukrainian daily Strana.
A barbed wire fence has been installed along the Tisa River in Transcarpathia. According to Strana, it was installed to prevent attempts to evade mobilisation.
The publication recalls that many Ukrainian men of conscription age try to swim across the Tisa to get to Romania and avoid mobilization into the Ukrainian army.
According to the Romanian State Border Service, at the end of February, over 9,000 Ukrainians illegally crossed the border during the two years of the Ukrainian conflict. In their turn, Ukrainian border guards reported that 22 people died while trying to cross the Tisa River illegally. Against this background, the State Border Service tightened the rules for staying in the border areas. In late February, it was reported about the introduction of a ban on entry to a five-kilometre zone along the border with Romania and Moldova.
Earlier, the secretary of the Verkhovna Rada committee for national security, defence and intelligence, SBU colonel Roman Kostenko, said that Ukraine had slowed down the process of mobilizing Ukrainians to join the AFU.
