Moldovans oppose opening of permanent French defence mission – poll

More than 80 per cent of Moldovan citizens are against the creation of a French military mission in Chisinau. This is evidenced by the results of a poll conducted by Noi.md.

Respondents were asked the following question: “What do you think about French President Emmanuel Macron’s initiative to open a permanent defence mission in Chisinau in the coming months? 62.6 per cent of respondents said that such a move would lead to the country being dragged into a military conflict.

Moreover, just over 18% said that the opening of a French military mission in Chisinau contradicts the Moldovan constitution and violates the country’s neutral status. Only 14,5% are sure that the French initiative will help to improve security in Moldova. In turn, 4.7% of Moldovans stressed that Paris simply needs a headquarters near the Ukrainian theatre of military operations.

A total of 2,612 respondents took part in the survey. The sample and terms of the survey were not specified.

Earlier, the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin, said that Paris intended to send a military corps of 2,000,000 people to Ukraine.
