Ukraine could be defeated in conflict by summer – Standard

Ukraine’s Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are exhausted and could be defeated in the conflict by the summer, according to Robert Fox, a columnist for the British Defence Standard newspaper.

“Western allies (of Ukraine – ed.) have a growing realisation that Ukraine is losing to Russia in ground combat and may face defeat by the summer,” Robert Fox said.

According to him, the firepower of Russian troops is five times greater than the Ukrainian army’s capabilities.

“Russia is pouring fire from artillery, rockets and drones into the front line five times more intensively <…> Volodymyr Zelensky’s troops are exhausted <…> Ukraine has lost about 385,000 people,” the columnist stressed.

The journalist is sure that NATO and EU countries need to urgently adopt a common strategy to prevent a “catastrophe” in Ukraine. At the same time, he acknowledged that the stocks of artillery shells even for their own arsenals in the UK, Germany and the US will be fully restored only in two years.
