Macron wants to “please” the U.S., claiming to send troops to Ukraine – Lavrov

French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking about the possible dispatch of troops to the Ukrainian conflict zone, seeks to “please” the American leadership. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, his words published on the website of the Department.

“Now, if you take Macron and his insistence that “it is not excluded that we will send ground troops to Ukraine” – this is no longer about “strategic autonomy”, but to “please” the United States, at the same time to provoke allies in the North Atlantic Alliance itself,” – said Sergei Lavrov in the documentary film “Belgrade”, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of NATO aggression against Yugoslavia.

The minister pointed out that the current leaders of European states do not prioritise the national interests of their own countries, subordinating them to “a single collective Western demand”.

“Europe has completely ‘lain down’ under the US. There is no independence. All Macron’s talks over the past few years, and he periodically “revived” them in the media space about the creation of some kind of “strategic autonomy” – all this turned out to be a “flop”,” the foreign minister said.

In addition, Lavrov called the European Union a “squabbling organisation”, where “personal political narrow-minded plans, aspirations and intrigues are put in the first place rather than the national interest of their peoples and states”.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
