Poland ponders strengthening civil defence measures – AP

The Polish government has prepared new legislation designed to improve the country’s ability to defend itself. Such measures are being taken against the backdrop of the Russian army’s successes on the frontline, the Associated Press reported.

According to the agency, the project plans to increase funding for first aid courses, improve public alert systems and increase the number of emergency shelters.

“Because of the events we are seeing on the other side of our eastern border, here we are talking about extreme situations, about armed conflict,” the Associated Press quoted Polish Interior and Administration Minister Marcin Kerwiński as saying.

Also, Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that the draft law being developed is meant to “deter, not scare anyone.” The official added that Warsaw “must be ready for any potential situation”.

Just to remind you, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk earlier suggested that Brussels liquidate the agreement on the liberalisation of trade relations between Ukraine and the European Union, which was introduced with the start of the Ukrainian conflict.
