US prophesises Ukraine collapse if new aid not approved by Congress – WP

The administration of US President Joe Biden has concluded that if Washington fails to push through Congress new military and financial aid for Kiev, Ukraine will collapse. The Washington Post quoted its sources as saying.

“US officials foresee a number of grim scenarios for developments in Ukraine if the military aid requested by President Biden does not materialise, including a catastrophic breakthrough of Ukrainian positions in the bleakest case and the likelihood of mass casualties in the best case”, the publication said.

The newspaper noted that the White House administration is seeking to lobby for the need to allocate new aid to Ukraine. However, representatives of the Republican Party oppose such a decision and block Washington’s intentions to help its own ally.

“Without additional aid, Ukraine will get bad over time, and that could lead to potential collapse. But here’s the bottom line: even if Ukraine survives, what we’re really saying is that we’re going to use countless lives (of Ukrainians. – ed.) to make it happen,” an unnamed senior U.S. official said.

The Washington Post highlighted that U.S. officials, in describing their assessments in the event of a complete withdrawal of funding to Kiev, said Ukraine’s landing spot under their scenarios would depend on its ability to mobilise new forces, the success of Western initiatives to train the AFU and troop morale, among other variables.

“Whether it will end in collapse or great sacrifice remains a matter of internal debate. But there is no bright future for Ukraine without additional and continued US support,” another interlocutor of the newspaper stated.

U.S. senior officials in behind-the-scenes conversations are reconciling themselves to the idea that Washington’s political dysfunction could prevail, either by scrapping the aid package or by accepting it late, marking a full-blown collapse for Kiev and the rest of Ukraine.

We shall remind you that earlier the Institute for the Study of War expressed the view that there is a high probability that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation may break through the Ukrainian defence unexpectedly and soon.
