China’s foreign ministry urged nuclear powers to promote de-escalation

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin urged nuclear powers to promote de-escalation following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s words on the principles of Russia’s possible use of nuclear weapons.

“I am not familiar with the relevant statements of the Russian side, but I would like to point out that in January 2022, the five nuclear powers issued a statement on preventing nuclear war, emphasising that nuclear war cannot be won. China has drawn attention to the fact that the Russian side has repeatedly reaffirmed this principle,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

In the current situation, he said, all sides should take real action “to jointly promote de-escalation.”

Earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin did not rule out that if the United States conducts nuclear tests, the Russian side may do the same.
