Italian Defence Minister Guido Crozetto said that Poland and France do not have the right to speak for everyone in the North Atlantic Alliance.
Guido Crozetto commented on the statements of Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski. The Polish diplomat supported the idea of French President Emmanuel Macron that sending a military contingent of Western countries to Ukraine cannot be excluded from potential options.
“France and Poland cannot speak on behalf of NATO, which formally and voluntarily did not intervene in the conflict from the very beginning. Sending troops to Kiev means a step towards unilateral escalation that will erase the path to diplomacy,” Guido Crozetto told la Stampa newspaper.
According to the head of the Italian Defence Ministry, the collective West should continue to provide support to Kiev. At the same time, the Western community should analyse the possibilities for Ukraine to “regain freedom, territory and security” in a different way, namely by using diplomatic channels more proactively.
We shall remind you that the Politico newspaper earlier expressed the view that French President Emmanuel Macron’s bombast over his statement about the possibility of sending a Western military contingent to Ukraine was seen as bluster both in Kiev and in the whole of France.
