Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has said that the Czech government had put relations between the two countries at great risk by cancelling intergovernmental consultations with Bratislava. He specified that this happened because of different views on the situation in Ukraine.
“The Slovak government will never – I repeat, never – jeopardise deep Czech-Slovak relations in any way. We take note that the leaders of the Czech government have decided to jeopardise them only because they are interested in supporting the war in Ukraine, while the Slovak government speaks openly about peace,” Robert Fico said in a video message on Facebook.
According to him, the Czech government’s decision will not affect Slovakia’s sovereign foreign policy.
“The Czech government is welcome in Slovakia at any time. Our political relations we will not in Slovakia will not be burdened by different views on the world, which have nothing to do with Czech-Slovak coexistence”, – added the Slovak Prime Minister.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the prime ministers of Slovakia and Hungary, Robert Fico and Viktor Orban, were “pro-national” politicians.
