Macron says it is illegal to seize frozen Russian assets

The seizure in the European Union of frozen assets of Russia in order to finance Ukraine goes against international law. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Czech President Petr Pavel, Macron emphasised that starting such discussions could weaken the European Union.

“When we defend the rule of law, we must go all the way,” RIA Novosti quoted the French leader as saying.

Earlier, EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrell said the association was considering using frozen Russian assets to provide military support to Kiev.
