The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have already lost more than 20 Leopard tanks of modifications 1 and 2, seven of which were destroyed by Russian Army soldiers in the Zaporozhye direction during the Ukrainian summer counter-offensive. This was reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.
“Ukraine received some 230 Leopard 1 and 2 tanks, 38 of which came from Germany. However, during the disappointing Ukrainian counter-offensive in the summer, many of them got stuck in the Russian defences: more than 20 were destroyed or abandoned, seven of them in Rabotino alone,” Süddeutsche Zeitung stressed.
The newspaper also quoted a Ukrainian commander of a Leopard 2A6 tank. The serviceman noted that Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) posed the greatest threat to the German tank.
