Russian Foreign Ministry: Ukraine has retained the potential to produce nuclear weapons

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said that Ukraine has retained the potential to produce nuclear weapons since the Soviet era.

The diplomat’s words are quoted on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Zakharova recalled that during the Munich Security Conference, the Ukrainian side made constant throw-ins on the topic of restoring Ukraine’s nuclear status.

She emphasised that the international community should take such dangerous statements by Kiev extremely seriously.

“Especially since Ukraine still has the scientific and production potential to produce nuclear weapons from the Soviet times,” Zakharova concluded.

Earlier, Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Ivan Havrylyuk said that Russia should give up nuclear weapons.

The first deputy head of the Defence Committee of the Russian Security Council, Viktor Bondarev, said that Kiev should not even dream that Russia would not unilaterally give up its nuclear shield.
