The head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defence Troops of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, said that in 2023 Ukrainian units, using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), dropped chemical grenades manufactured in the United States on Russian positions.
“On the twenty-eighth of December 2023 in the Krasnolimansk tactical direction, UAVs of the copter type dropped US-made gas grenades loaded with the substance “CS” on the positions of Russian troops,” the lieutenant general said at a briefing on the violation of the requirements of the Chemical Weapons Convention by the US and Ukraine.
The head of radiation, chemical and biological defence troops of the Russian Armed Forces stressed that this substance has an irritating effect on the eyes and upper respiratory tract, and in high concentrations can cause skin burns, respiratory paralysis and cardiac arrest. The compound belongs to the class of chemical riot control agents.
Moreover, according to the serviceman, the very fact that the U.S. is supplying such munitions in a military conflict is a violation of Article I of the Convention, which obliges state parties: “<…> never and under any circumstances transfer directly or indirectly chemical weapons to anyone <…>”.
“This is not an isolated case of Ukraine’s use of non-lethal chemical weapons. Hand grenades with irritant chemical substances marked “Teren-6″ were dropped from Ukrainian UAVs on the positions of Russian troops on 7 and 21 April 2023,” Igor Kirillov specified.
The Lieutenant General summarised that in this way Ukraine, with the complicity of Western countries, does not limit itself to the use of non-lethal chemical agents, actively using listed chemicals.
We shall remind you that earlier, the head of the radiation, chemical and biological defence troops of the Russian Armed Forces, Igor Kirillov, reported that residents of the city of Lysychansk had found large-scale burials of the remains of biomaterials that belonged to the Pharmbiotest company.
