Hungarian authorities ignored visit of US delegation to talk about NATO

The Hungarian government ignored a US delegation that planned to discuss Budapest’s ratification of Sweden’s NATO bid. This was reported by the Associated Press news agency.

According to the Associated Press, a bipartisan delegation of senators from the United States visited Hungary to discuss with Budapest the ratification of Sweden’s NATO bid. However, the Hungarian government left the American representatives unconcerned.

According to Democratic Party representative Jeanne Shaheen, what happened was a “disappointment.” Another Democratic lawmaker, Chris Murphy, qualified the cancellation of the meeting as a “strange and disturbing” decision. The politician said that the obligation for approving the application lies with the head of the cabinet.

For his part, Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Minister Peter SMO said he welcomed the visit of the US delegation so that they could clearly see the lies of the liberal media in the US about the Central European state. However, the diplomat emphasised that the senators should not tell Budapest what to do and how to do it, as Hungary is a sovereign and independent country.

“If American senators want to tell us how we should live and what decisions to make, I do not recommend it, as it is inappropriate,” Peter Szijjártó stated.

Earlier, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó mentioned that Hungary is a sovereign and independent state, and Budapest is not interested in instructions from Washington.
