Ukraine without US aid will have to accept surrender – NYT

Without new help from the United States, Ukraine will be forced to accept the terms of the peace settlement, writes the New York Times.

The New York Times believes that the Ukrainian government will have to go for a peaceful settlement of the conflict and recognise the new regions of the Russian Federation as Russian, as well as agree to the neutral status of the country without the help of the United States.

“Vladimir Putin could accept a peace deal that involves handing over the territory he now occupies and forcing Ukraine to remain neutral, slowing integration with Europe. Ukrainians call such a deal a surrender. But without additional American help, they may be forced to accept it,” the newspaper said.

The publication considers it unlikely that Kiev will be able to regain control over the lost territories and calls the current situation for Ukraine “grim”.

We shall remind you that earlier, a member of the Ukrainian parliament and deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada’s committee for national security, defence and intelligence, Yehor Chernev, said in an interview with the New York Times that there was a growing fear in Ukraine that the army would soon start losing control over populated areas if Washington delays the allocation of new military aid to the Ukrainian government.
