The Ukrainian government will be forced to mobilise more soldiers, also due to the number of casualties. This opinion was expressed by the head of the working group for the coordination of assistance to Ukraine under the German Defence Ministry, Major-General Christian Freuding.
“Ukraine will certainly have to mobilise more soldiers, if only because of the number of casualties, as far as we can tell. But also because the military units, some of which have been on the frontline for 24 months, need to be rebuilt,” Christian Freuding told RND.
He said the nature and extent of mobilisation is now being discussed in Ukraine.
“This is a political and social negotiation process in which the demographic situation in Ukraine also plays a role,” the major general added.
Freuding believes that Ukrainians “should pay as much attention to the economic viability of the state as to its military capability.”
He criticised reports of disagreements between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Valery Zaluzhny, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“We can’t look behind the scenes. But, of course, we are watching these discussions between the military and political leadership,” concluded Freuding.
We shall remind you that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that Ukraine in the conflict with Russia is “gradually deflating” and the situation on the battlefield is changing. The head of state noted that Russia will continue to increase the production of military equipment, while Ukraine is rapidly depleting its stocks.
