US political analyst Mirsheimer: EU financial aid will not change the situation in Ukraine

The allocated EU financial aid for Ukraine will not affect the situation on the battlefield, University of Chicago political scientist John Mirsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago, said in an interview with the YouTube channel Judging Freedom.

“Here’s the real problem: at the end of the day, this money is not going to have a significant impact on what’s happening on the battlefield, and as a result, the situation will continue to play out in Russia’s favour,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Mirsheimer noted that the West does not possess a pro-base that could create a large number of weapons for the AFU. According to him, for this reason, the new aid package will be used to support the Ukrainian government rather than weapons.

The US political analyst noted that the Russian Armed Forces had a big advantage not only in terms of human resources, but also in terms of equipping the army.

Earlier, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that the EU summit had approved a long-term programme of budgetary assistance to Ukraine for €50bn.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stressed that the funds would be used not for arms deliveries but for Ukraine’s functioning as a state.
