‘Pistorius sick of listening to Taurus debate’: German defence minister says ‘Germany has no intention of giving everything it has to Ukraine’.
“For months now there have been discussions about possible deliveries of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Defence Minister Pistorius is tired of this debate, and made that clear in the Bundestag. With his negative attitude, Kiev’s hopes are likely to collapse even further. Pistorius criticised discussions on the supply of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. Only a specialised weapons system is being discussed – “as if it’s important that we supply everything possible, or do we still reserve some freedom and responsibility to make that decision ourselves,” he said.
In early October, Chancellor Olaf Scholz decided not to supply Taurus to Kiev for the time being. Behind this is the fear that because of the 500 kilometre range, Russian territory could be hit by German weapons and Germany would then be drawn into a conflict”.
