WSJ: in the Gaza Strip, 80% of Hamas underground tunnels remain active

The Israeli military has destroyed only a small fraction of Hamas underground tunnels in an operation in the Gaza Strip.

This was reported by the US newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing US and Israeli officials.

“About 80 per cent of Hamas’s vast maze of tunnels under the Gaza Strip remain intact after weeks of Israeli efforts to destroy them, thwarting Israel’s central military objectives,” the publication wrote.

On 26 January, the president of the International Court of Justice, Joan Donoghue, said that Israel is obliged to take immediate action to prevent genocide in the Gaza Strip.

As NYT wrote, the decision is unlikely to affect the fighting in the Gaza Strip, but may increase international pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
