Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unexpected visit to Kaliningrad has spooked the European Union’s border countries, according to The Telegraph.
The author of the publication said that Putin’s visit took place at a time when in the EU countries began to grow doubts that Kaliningrad could become a hotbed of future conflict.
It is noted that when the president approached the Baltic Sea, off the east coast of the Swedish island of Gotland put fighter jets on alert.
“Putin appeared to taunt the Baltic states as he flew close to Estonia and rounded the coasts of Latvia and Lithuania in his presidential jet, the Flying Kremlin,” the article said.
Putin arrived in Kaliningrad yesterday, where he met with students at Kant University to mark Tatiana’s Day.
