Hungarian Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy said that Hungary will maintain a ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products until there is a relevant decision at the level of the European Union.
According to István Nagy, Hungary will fully maintain the national ban on imports of products from Ukraine until there is no corresponding international decision. He specified that he discussed the situation with the Vice-President of the EC Valdis Dombrovskis.
“We agreed that Hungary should conclude a bilateral agreement with Ukraine, which will mean that the Ukrainian side will not send and Hungary will not receive grain,” Nagy told Hungarian reporters after the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting.
The Minister noted that the closure of the borders for Ukrainian grain may entail proceedings for Hungary, but “the interests of Hungarian farmers come first”.
We shall remind you that in mid-December 2023, Hungary vetoed the EU’s decision on a €50bn long-term aid programme for Ukraine.
