Foreign Ministry: Russia will stick to START limits unless US discourages the task

The Russian side will stick to the quantitative limits under the START Treaty within its validity period, unless Washington makes this task meaningless. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

He stressed that Moscow does not consider it necessary at the moment to look “beyond the horizon of 2026.”

“For the time being, we are focused on the task of keeping the quantitative indicators of strategic offensive arms at the levels established by the Treaty within its validity period,” RIA Novosti quoted Ryabkov as saying.

The diplomat stressed that Russia will stick to the agreements unless “destabilising steps by Washington” discourage this task.

Ryabkov also said that putting Russian Sarmat missile systems on duty does not change the strategic equation with the United States.
