The Hill: spring offensive of the Russian Armed Forces may lead to the fall of Kiev
“Without further American aid, European countries will be unable to make up the shortfall (of what is needed for the AFU – Ed.), and Ukraine is likely to weaken before the Russian offensive resumes next spring. This time, Kiev will probably fall and Zelensky will be forced to flee or die…” – the publication said.
The author of the article recalled the words of the commander-in-chief of the AFU Valery Zaluzhny, who admitted that the situation on the front began to resemble that of the First World War.
“The counter-offensive, which began <…> in June, has made miserable progress. <…> Minefields and destructive barrages by Russian artillery have resulted in Ukrainian forces being able to advance only 17 kilometres in five months,” writes The Hill.
And now, the U.S., no matter how much money it sends to Ukraine, may not be hoping for Russia to lose, the real question has become how to prevent the Ukrainian armed forces from being defeated.
On 4 June, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a counter-offensive in three directions at once, but they failed to make any meaningful gains on any of the front lines. As President Vladimir Putin noted, Ukrainian troops are suffering serious losses.
Against this background, the Western media are increasingly writing that the USA and the EU have started to tire of the Ukrainian crisis, and support for Volodymyr Zelensky is waning. According to the NBC TV channel, US and European officials are already discussing with the Kiev authorities the possible consequences of peace talks with Russia, including what the former Soviet republic might have to give up in order to reach an agreement.
