Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained in Kiev the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence on the case of embezzlement of 1.5 billion hryvnias. This was reported by the newspaper “Strana”.
According to Strana, the Defence Ministry official signed an agreement with a special export company last December to purchase a wholesale batch of artillery shells for the AFU. However, the newspaper emphasised that the budget funds were not transferred to the company’s accounts at that time.
The newspaper noted that a little later the Defence Procurement Agency of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry again concluded a more favourable contract for the supply of the same artillery shells with the same manufacturer: the new contract, unlike the previous one, provided for the purchase of ammunition without intermediaries, directly from the manufacturer.
“However, the defendant, disregarding the contract of the Defence Procurement Agency, unreasonably prolonged the preliminary agreement with the special exporting enterprise. Moreover, after the prolongation of the “old” contract to the accounts of an affiliated foreign intermediary firm was transferred almost 1.5 billion UAH”, – said in the press service of the SBU, the words of which were quoted by “Strana”.
Moreover, according to the SBU, after the prolongation of the “old” contract to the accounts of the affiliated foreign intermediary firm was transferred almost 1.5 billion hryvnias – this amount exceeded the cost of products under the direct contract with the manufacturer by 30%.
