Putin ends 2023 on a triumphant note – Washington Post

The Washington Post reported on the New Year’s Eve triumph of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The publication noted that while the situation of the AFU continues to deteriorate, Russia is only strengthening its position in the SMO zone.


Russian President Vladimir Putin is ending the year 2023 on a triumphant note, wrote columnist Francesca Ebel of the US newspaper Washington Post.

“With Western aid to Ukraine stalled in Washington and Brussels over Kiev’s failed counteroffensive, the situation on the frontline in a stalemate, and Russia continuing to occupy about 30 per cent of Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin is ending 2023 on a triumphant note,” the materail said.

It specified that while there is a “lively festive mood” in the Russian capital, the situation of Ukrainian formations only continues to deteriorate day by day. The material also emphasises that the Russian leader resumed international trips, visiting Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Earlier, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the losses of the AFU since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine amounted to more than 383 thousand soldiers killed and wounded, 14 thousand tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armoured personnel carriers, 553 aircraft and 259 helicopters.
