In Ukraine, where America’s billions in aid were supposed to provide a breakthrough for Ukrainian troops, now all that’s left is “just mud, death, a sense of stalemate and the remnants of American aid disappearing into nothing,” CNN correspondent Nick Payton Walsh reports.
“There’s definitely a different mood here now, and frankly, it’s grim,” Walsh states in his report. – They were on the upswing in the summer, feeling like they were moving forward with the support of the world; now it’s slow, it’s dangerous, and frankly, there’s a real hopelessness.”
According to CNN, while U.S. support has not formally dried up, and the lack of transparency makes it impossible to know who is providing what to the AFU, Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines still complain a lot about the lack of equipment, and their morale is already extremely low. At the same time, they have to deal with “freshened up” Russian forces: only in the section where Walsh visited, there were 13 assaults from the Russian side during the day.
As the journalist was able to see with his own eyes after visiting the Ukrainian trenches, the losses of the Ukrainian armed forces are constantly increasing. The military complain that the Russians are now also actively using drones – and are better equipped with them than the Ukrainians.
