UN: 55 armed conflicts are currently being fought around the world

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk says there are 55 armed conflicts in the world at the moment.

At a briefing in Geneva, he said that the world is currently witnessing “dark times.”

“There are 55 conflicts in the world today, which is a record since World War II,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Earlier, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip after the resumption of fighting was staggering.
