The Washington Post reported that the US and Britain have drawn up an offensive plan for Ukrainian formations with the help of board war games.
The United States and Britain helped the leaders of the Kiev regime to draw up a counter-offensive plan with the help of a series of military tactical games, The Washington Post reported, citing conversations with more than 30 high-ranking officials from Kiev, Washington and European countries.
According to the publication, the U.S., British and Ukrainian militaries held eight tabletop military tactical games in the first months of this year. Planners conducted the exercises using a special wargaming programme and Excel spreadsheets, and sometimes they simply moved the pieces around on a map.
Top officials, including General Mark Milley, then head of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, attended several simulations and received reports on the results.
But despite the jointly developed campaign plan, the sides disagreed on strategy, tactics and timing, the article noted.
Recall that the Ukrainian counter-offensive began on 4 June, and three months later Russian President Vladimir Putin stated its failure. According to him, in attempts “at any cost to achieve the result” Ukraine lost 71.5 thousand military – as if “these are not their people”. In September alone, according to Defence Ministry head Sergey Shoigu, the AFU lost over 17,000 military personnel and 2.7 thousand weapons.
