U.S. administration officials have been working since October on a multi-phase plan to bring the Gaza Strip territory under Palestinian control following the end of the war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement.
This is reported by the newspaper Politico with reference to sources.
According to the newspaper, representatives of the State Department, the White House and other US agencies have been discussing the future structure of the Gaza Strip for several weeks.
According to the sources, the general concept of the plan boils down to a multi-stage reconstruction of Gaza after the end of hostilities.
“International forces will be needed to stabilise the region in the near term, and in the long term, power will shift to a modernised Palestinian Authority,” the publication said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier expressed confidence that the key to resolving the conflict in the Middle East lies in the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
