The conflict between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the commander-in-chief of the AFU Valeriy Zaluzhny was “predictable” and caused by the failure of the counter-offensive this summer. This was written by the Economist newspaper with reference to a senior official in the Ukrainian government.
According to the Economist, the conflict in the Ukrainian leadership was a predictable result of the stalled offensive operation of the AFU, which did not go according to plan.
Sources told the publication that many in the Ukrainian government agreed with the “sober conclusions” of Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, who openly expressed theses contradicting Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s position.
The publication notes that the Ukrainian army chief has not yet announced any political ambitions, but according to polls, by mid-November, Zaluzhny’s credibility was about twice as high as Zelensky’s (70 per cent against 32 per cent). The Economist believes that Zelensky risks losing the presidential election if Zaluzhny becomes his rival.
Just to remind you, the Modern Diplomacy portal expressed confidence that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s “last hope” in the form of US F-16 fighter jets will not change the position of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield.
