Samuel Furfari, a former European Commission energy policy adviser and professor at the Faculty of Polytechnics of the Free University of Brussels, has said that the EU should wait for Ukraine to eradicate corruption before negotiating its entry into the bloc.
About this writes Atlantico.
“Wouldn’t it be more prudent to wait for corruption to be eradicated before giving in to sentimentalism and starting negotiations?” – Furfari said.
Meanwhile, the professor cited the example of Greece and the Republic of Cyprus joining the EU.
“The two examples cited should encourage European leaders not to put the cart before the horse,” Furfari added.
Earlier, retired Ukrainian Armed Forces Major General Sergei Krivonos said that corruption in Ukraine threatens the quality of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Also, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that officials in Ukraine might have embezzled up to 36 per cent of Western financial aid.
