Colonel Reisner: German Leopard tanks proved useless for the AFU
German Leopard tanks used by the AFU have shown no effectiveness on the battlefield, said Colonel Markus Reissner of the Austrian Armed Forces, speaking at the AIES European Forum in Vienna.
“Everyone thought that the Leopard tanks would make a difference, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. Why? Because the Ukrainians lacked the right skills and capabilities,” the military officer noted.
Reisner stressed that this situation was predicted from the very beginning, it was obvious from a military point of view, but many Western experts insisted that Ukrainian soldiers would be able to “defeat the Russians due to enthusiasm”.
As Forbes reported, the Russian military has recently destroyed a quarter of the German Leopard 2 tanks supplied to Ukraine. The Defence Ministry noted that the AFU lost 25 Leopard combat vehicles during the counter-offensive in June and July. All the tanks of this type that were hit, which were shown on photos and videos by both the ministry and Russian military correspondents, were of the 2A4 and 2A6 modifications.
