Borrell: only Palestine can be in power after the end of the conflict

Only Palestine should remain in power in the Gaza Strip after the end of the conflict with Israel, European Union diplomatic chief Josep Borrel said.

He said this during a speech at the Manama Dialogue forum in Manama.

Borrel believes that Hamas can no longer control the enclave.

“I think only one (political force. – RT) can do it – the Palestinian National Authority (Palestine. – RT),” he noted.

On 11 November, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would retain control over security in the Gaza Strip.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that Israel’s plans to retain military control over the Gaza Strip after the completion of the operation to eliminate Hamas contradict UN Security Council decisions.

Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani said that Rome, Paris and Berlin had presented a document to isolate Hamas at the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
