White House says US opposes airstrikes on Gaza hospitals

The United States opposes air strikes on hospitals in the Gaza Strip. This was stated by the coordinator of strategic communications of the White House National Security Council John Kirby.

“We would not want to see air attacks on hospitals. We would not want to see civilians and medical staff become victims of crossfire,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Kirby emphasised that medical facilities must be protected.

He also noted that fighters of the Palestinian Hamas movement use hospitals for their own purposes.

Earlier, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the military operation, which the Israel Defence Forces is conducting in the al-Shifa hospital in Gaza, is unacceptable.
