KAN: US asks Netanyahu to clarify his words on security control in Gaza

The administration of US President Joe Biden is asking Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to clarify his statements that Israel will retain security control in the Gaza Strip.

As Israeli broadcaster KAN notes, such statements by Netanyahu have been repeated several times in recent days, including on 11 November.

The US administration is now asking Israel to explain what “security control” in the Gaza Strip means.

Benjamin Netanyahu has previously claimed that he would not agree to give up security control in the Gaza Strip under any circumstances after the demilitarisation of the enclave.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken asserted that Washington favours the unification of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank under Palestinian rule. At the same time, he said Israel needed to take additional steps to minimise civilian casualties in Gaza.
