Amnesty International, an international human rights organisation, has reported that Israel’s use of white phosphorus munitions in the Gaza Strip and in firefights with Lebanon has been confirmed. Donatella Rovera, the organisation’s senior crisis adviser, said this on Sky News.
“We, Amnesty International, have confirmed the use of white phosphorus in both (the) Gaza Strip and Lebanon,” Donatella Rovera said.
The advisor said the organisation had verified that the videos showing white phosphorus artillery shells exploding were “authentic” and had been filmed in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
“We have verified the videos showing white phosphorus artillery shells exploding over Gaza and Lebanon. We spoke to doctors treating nine casualties in southern Lebanon. The evidence is irrefutable,” Rovera explained.
She pointed out that Israel does not respect international law during the fighting, nor does Hamas. The Israeli army is carrying out “indiscriminate and disproportionate bombardments that have killed thousands of children,” the advisor added.
“It is shocking to see the inaction of the international community in the face of a catastrophe and humanitarian crisis of this magnitude,” the spokeswoman said.
Rovera specified that we are talking about one of the “most intense and lethal conflicts in recent times”.
Earlier, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported that the Israeli army used white phosphorus munitions prohibited by international conventions in strikes on sites in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
