Forbes: AFU reverts to Soviet T-72 tanks because of lost Leopard 2s

Ukraine’s armed forces are reverting to T-72 tanks due to the loss of German-made Leopard 2s, columnist David Axe said in an article for Forbes.

In the article titled “As Ukraine loses more of its best Leopard 2 tanks, it’s going back to old T-72s,” the columnist writes that Western countries have found an easy way to supply Ukraine with tanks.

“Pay the Czech firm CSG Defence to take old Soviet T-72Ms from the 1980s, replace the engines, some of the electronics and install dynamic protection. The tanks with the new T-72EA licence plate are ready for shipment,” the publication said.

According to the publication, the warehouses of the former Warsaw Pact member states currently have about a hundred T-72M tanks, which could become a base for modernisation.

According to the author of the material, modifications of the T-72M allow the Ukrainian army to compensate for the loss of Leopard 2 tanks.

Earlier, the Russian Defence Ministry said that the Ukrainian military had lost up to 220 military personnel and a Leopard tank over the day in the Zaporizhzhya direction.
