Source says Kiev’s ammunition shortage is linked to corruption
Kiev’s ammunition shortage is linked to the extremely high level of corruption in Ukraine, a source in Moscow told RIA Novosti.
“The shortage of ammunition and weapons from the AFU is connected not only with active fighting, but also with the off-the-scale level of corruption in Ukraine and the lack of control over the use of Western weapons,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
According to him, military products get into the black market, end up in the hands of criminal and radical groups and resurface in other regions, which affects the security situation.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said in a recent interview with the Financial Times that Kiev is experiencing a shortage of ammunition. He complained that the whole world has run out of shells and the Ukrainian side needs to engage in its own production.
At the same time, the publication noted, citing an unnamed official, that Ukraine will not be able to quickly transform the production of shells, including due to a global “shortage of gunpowder”.
