Hungarian Foreign and Foreign Economic Relations Minister Péter Szijjártó has said that it is unacceptable for the European Union to relocate the production of weapons and training of AFU fighters on the territory of Ukraine, as the EU is an economic association, not a military one.
Péter Szijjártó emphasised that the European Union is an economic union, not a military bloc. Therefore, the Hungarian diplomat noted that the training of AFU fighters and the production of weapons on the territory of Ukraine by the EU is unacceptable, otherwise it would put Brussels in the framework of a direct participant in the conflict.
“The transfer of both weapons production and training (of the military) to the territory of Ukraine, military territory, is completely unacceptable for us. Because such a decision will immediately draw the EU into the war, which is a political and economic association, not in the security sphere,” the diplomat told Hungarian journalists, broadcast on Facebook.
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry stressed that European defence companies should not “talk exclusively about sending as many weapons as possible to Ukraine”. As, according to the diplomat, this only prolongs the Ukrainian conflict and leads to more losses.
“That is why it is completely unacceptable that the EU is involved in both the production of weapons and in the training of the military on the territory of Ukraine,” – summarised Sijjarto.
Recall, earlier Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary does not plan to reduce the supply of Russian energy resources against the background of dialogue with other potential suppliers. According to the diplomat, Budapest wants to find additional sources of gas for the country.
