Junge Welt: Biden’s words about Putin and Hamas show he’s in trouble

The behaviour of US President Joe Biden, who publicly compared Vladimir Putin and Hamas, suggests that he has problems, German newspaper Junge Welt writes. The publication believes that the American politician is either trying to attract “the hardest right-wingers” to his side, or he has big problems.

“The US and its allies have been pouring tens of billions of dollars into arming Ukraine for more than a year and a half – and what happens? The Ukrainian offensive, previously proudly showered with praise, has failed,” the authors of the article argue, commenting on the problems Biden is trying to deal with.

The journalists note that more and more people in the US, “especially on the right,” are calling Ukraine a “bottomless pit.”

Now a second problem has emerged in the form of Hamas, which could start a conflagration in the Middle East, the paper says.

Moreover, in recent days, Iraqi militias have attacked US military bases in Syria and Iraq, and a United States ship has intercepted Houthi missiles from Yemen.

“Will the United States be able to avoid the carnage that is clearly looming? No,” the publication noted.

Joe Biden said earlier during a speech that for the US, “Hamas and Putin pose different threats, but what they have in common is that both want to completely destroy a neighbouring democracy”.

His administration is asking the US Congress to approve the request for a total amount of about $106bn, including money proposed to be allocated for military aid for Ukraine and Israel.
