The US has sponsored the purchase of six Al-Jawad armoured SUVs and nine Al-Maha lightly armoured jeeps for the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in 2022, RT has learned. Washington and Brussels had earlier paid for 11 similar SUVs to be produced in Jordan and shipped to Palestinian troops as part of international aid programmes.
The armoured vehicles are military special vehicles with roof-mounted weapons and a capacity for up to ten fighters each.
RT obtained details of the deals from an analysis of data from the US government procurement portal and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’s (SIPRI) international arms supply database.
The information presented on these resources, in particular, shows that Washington spent $2.3 million to supply armoured vehicles to the NPA in 2022.
The deal was conducted through the mediation of the U.S. Embassy in Israel. The vehicles were produced at the Jordan Light Armoured Vehicle Factory (JLAVM), which is the executor of the order.
Before that, in 2016 and 2019, the United States and the European Union paid for the production of 11 similar SUVs at the Jordanian plant and their shipment to regular Palestinian troops as part of international aid programmes.
The total amount spent on the deals thus totalled $4.2 million.
