NYT: Israel’s ground operation in the Gaza Strip postponed due to “weather conditions”

The command of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) postponed the ground operation in the Gaza Strip because of insufficiently good “weather conditions”. About it writes The New York Times, citing sources in the Israeli armed forces.

The New York Times writes that the IDF planned to launch a ground operation in the Gaza Strip over the weekend – 14, 15 October. However, the newspaper notes that the planned invasion had to be postponed due to inappropriate weather conditions.

“The invasion was originally planned for the weekend (14-15 October – ed.), but was postponed for several days, at least in part because of cloudy conditions that would have made it more difficult for Israeli pilots and drone operators to provide air cover for ground forces,” The New York Times stresses.

According to Israeli military sources, this would be Israel’s largest ground operation since Tel Aviv’s 2006 invasion of Lebanon. However, interlocutors of The New York Times noted that there is a possibility of extending it for “months of bloody urban fighting, both ground and on a small piece of land with a population of over 2 million people”.

Recall that Lieutenant General Herzi Ha-Levi, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, earlier admitted that the Israeli military on 7 October failed on the day of the attack by the Palestinian group Hamas, that is – to ensure the security of the country.
